Stitch Colour Cloth meets on the second Saturday of the month from September to May at Oakbank Community Centre, Viewlands Road West, Perth PH1 1NA
There is an opportunity to stitch and chat with other members between 12 and 2 followed by our speaker from 2-3.30pm. Two of the meetings are full day workshops, these book up quickly and are open only to members.

Speaker – Celia Joicey, Dovecot Studios Director – IKEA Museum’s Magical Patterns
Celia Joicey shares insights and stories relating to the IKEA Museum’s Magical Patterns exhibition on at Dovecot Studios from 18 July to 17 January 2026. IKEA Museum’s Magical Patterns celebrates 60 years of innovative textile design and their support for experimental artists, including their close collaboration with 10-gruppen, a Swedish design collective established in 1970, known for their large scale, brightly coloured patterns.
Workshop – Sue Crawley – Japanese Sashiko Stitched Pincushion & Artist Talk
Hear from Sue Crawley of Sunshine Designs about her own creative practice and her focus on slow stitching and also create your own Japanese pincushion using Sashiko stitching, a traditional type of embroidery or stitching. The word Sashiko means “little stabs” in Japanese. This form of stitching is used for both decorative and functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. It consists of rows of running stitch that build up repeated patterns. All materials provided.
Speaker – Lucy Freeman – Botanical Embroidery: Painting with Thread
Lucy Freeman will share how she has learnt to approach embroidery like painting, stitching from life while colour blending, shading and layering expressive stitches to create large scale botanical artwork.

Speaker (via Zoom)- Vanessa Marr – Collaborative Domestic Dusters Project
Join project founder, artist, academic, Vanessa Marr for an inspiring journey into her ongoing collaborative textile project Domestic Dusters which invites women to embroider their experiences of domesticity onto a yellow duster. Vanessa will reveal the inspiration for the project and the stories behind a selection of hundreds of hand-embroidered dusters contributed by women from across the world, challenging the legacy of so-called women’s work.
Workshop – Chloe Patience – 3D Embroidery with beads
Join award-winning textile designer Chloe Patience to explore and learn the essentials of hand-embroidery & beading techniques incorporating threads, wools, beads and sequins, to create embroidered motifs that you can use to jazz up your garments. Open to members only. All materials provided, cost tbc and booking available early 2026.
Speaker – Sophie Younger – Textile Conservation: A Stitched Legacy
Perth based ICON accredited textile conservator, Sophie Younger shares her own route into this specialised sector and some of the diverse projects she’s worked on for the National Trust for Scotland and across the UK. Sophie reveals the variety of skills and approaches employed including historical research, experimental methods and of course being a master-stitcher.
Speaker – Joanna Kinnersly-Taylor – From Essence to Substance – Creating Depth in Print
Print is often perceived as a quick process due to the potential for repetition that screen-printing allows. Joanna Kinnersly-Taylor’s aim is to use the medium to create textiles that achieve a greater visual depth, through a painstaking and labour-intensive methodology that she has developed and honed over many years. Showing a range of work, she will explore her journey on cloth and how her work has evolved to fully embrace key themes that have always preoccupied her.
