May Meeting – AGM and Member Tales

Our final meeting before the summer break included our AGM followed by three members sharing their experiences of workshops and classes along with wonderful examples of the work they created as a result.

As usual we started the meeting with an informal Stitch and Chat, catching up with each other, sharing hints and tips and even some stitching. We were delighted to receive more stitched dusters for Stitch Colour Cloth’s contribution to the Domestic Duster Project and puffs for our own Calico Dress project.

Our chair, Ali started the official AGM proceedings with reflections on the origins of the group, thanking the founding committee for all their drive and determination and the members for their support and contributions over the last 5 years. It has been another busy year for Stitch Colour Cloth, with our exhibition in May 2025 including the community project; the Domestic Duster contributions, a fantastic programme of speakers and workshops and of course our ongoing Calico Dress project. Ali thanked all the committee members for their contributions. Then shared the news that our next exhibition will again be at Perth Theatre from 10th to 15th May 2027.

Caron launched the exciting new programme of speakers and workshops from September 2026 – full details here. We are all very grateful for her time and energy to create a varied and engaging calendar of events. Information and how to book workshops will be circulated to members in early July. This was followed by the Treasurer’s update from Claire. Both the programme and budget were approved unanimously by members.

Ali officially handed over the role of Chairwoman to Susan Cooney, who thanked Ali (& Pete) for all their support to the group and how much we all appreciate how willingly and patiently Ali has shared her knowledge and expertise and encouraged members to try a new method, attend a workshop and expand their stitching skills. Ali will continue to support the committee behind the scenes and lead on the Calico Dress Project.

After cake to celebrate our 5th birthday, we heard from three members, Christine, Kath and Susan who shared their experiences of different classes and workshops – online and in person including classes at the Scottish Stitch and Textiles Summer School. We all really enjoyed seeing the examples of their work in progress and finished pieces and hearing the pros and cons of the different classes. A huge thank you ladies.
